The losing woes continue for the Dallas Wings, as they fall to the Phoenix Mercury 98-72 Friday in their return from Olympic break. The Wings beat the Mercury three times this season, but could not complete the sweep.
Dallas forward Plenette Pierson led all scorers with 23 points. Penny Taylor led Phoenix with 22 points, and forward Diana Taurasi left the game late in the first half after sustaining an ankle injury.
The Wings started the game well, going on an 8-0 run which included back-to-back threes by Pierson. The Mercury turned up the heat with Taurasi on the bench, ending the first half 52-43.
Phoenix exploded in the third quarter, and the Wings had no answer. All five starters for the Mercury scored in double digits. Skylar Diggins added 17 points for Dallas.
Glory Johnson returned to the court for the Wings after suffering a toe injury before the Olympic break. The team is fully loaded and primed for a win, but the Mercury played a good defensive game and shot nearly 60 percent from the field.
Dallas will look end their losing streak when they return home Sunday to host the Chicago Sky.
