Skylar Diggins missed the Dallas Wings’ preseason opener Saturday for a good reason: she was getting married.
The All-Star guard wed longtime beau Daniel Smith in Chicago at a small ceremony that was attended by several of her former Notre Dame teammates and coaches. Diggins and Smith announced their engagement last June.
Wings forward Karima Christmas-Kelly was married during the offseason, and guard Erin Phillips and her wife welcomed twins in November. Phillips said she loves being a mother, and that the twins have put life into perspective.
“Time management is huge,” she said. “I am constantly tired, and there’s no way around that. But they have definitely shifted my whole thinking about sport.”
That shift comes with having to balance eating right, getting enough rest and staying in shape for the two-sport athlete, who played professional football in her native Australia in the WNBA offseason.
Diggins will return to the Wings for their May 6 match up with the Fever, in Dallas.
