Sky fall in overtime against the Dream

Atlanta, Ga. – The game was in overtime when the Sky’s Cappie Pondexter toed the free throw line and sunk both shots, scoring Chicago’s final two points of the evening and giving them a 97-93 lead. The problem was there was still 2:23 left in the game. The Atlanta Dream then proceeded to go on an 8-0 scoring run to steal a 101-97 win.

Early on, the game foreshadowed what was to come, as both teams battled neck and neck. For every basket the Sky scored, the Dream answered right back. However, Chicago started to open things up toward the conclusion of the first quarter, ending the frame up by nine points.

The lead was short-lived, as the Dream utilized nearly the entire second quarter chipping away the nine-point deficit to close out the first half in a 55-55 draw. They continued this momentum in the next period, extending their lead over the Sky to six points. Chicago was then able to claw their way back in the fourth, as the teams once again would answer for each others made baskets, fans in Philips Arena extra basketball.

Sky forward Elena Delle Donne scored a team-high 26 points for the Sky – 12 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Jamierra Faulkner added five off the bench, and eclipsed the 500-point mark for her career.

The Dream were led by forward Angel McCoughtry’s 22 points and five rebounds. This marks the 26th straight game she has scored in double figures.

After going 1-3 on this four-game road trip, Chicago will be looking to turn things around as they return home. The will play host to San Antonio June 21 before visiting the Liberty June 24.
