99-18

Is Baylor that good, or is Texas State that bad? Looking at the Bobcats’ schedule, they don’t necessarily seem like bottom dwellers. But managing only 18 points in a college game has got to be some kind of record. It was crazy to see the point disparity between the teams grow and grow.

There were plenty of records on the other side of the coin from this game, as well. Bears freshman Brittney Griner became her school’s shot blocking leader tonight, and she tied Candace Parker for most dunks in a game, throwing it down twice for four of her 26 points. Coach Kim Mulkey also racked up her 250th win.

Box score and hoopfeed story.

As I touched on in a previous blog, not many people gave the class of 2009 props as they’d done for previous classes. But a lot of the frosh besides Griner are holding it down. Fellow Baylor freshman Washington, Madden and Hayden are getting a lot of minutes. Cal freshmen DeNesha Stallworth and Layshia Clarendon are the second and third-leading scorers, respectively, for their team.

With the way all these frosh are shining right now, I’m wondering exactly how this will propel the evolvement of the game. It’s exciting, to say the least.
