Dallas, TX. – The Connecticut Sun edged the Dallas Wings, 86-83, to snap a three-game losing streak Saturday.
Alex Bentley lead three Sun players in double figures with 24 points. Glory Johnson had 16 points for the Wings – one of six in double figures. But it was not enough to outlast Connecticut, who out shot the hosts and had 10 more assists.
“I’m just proud of my teammates for battling, coming in and executing the game plan,” Bentley said. “Our coach prepared us really well for this game…..I’m just proud of how we came out, our bench definitely gave us a lift in the first quarter. They got it done for us, and we got to close it out.”
Both teams went back and forth in the third quarter, with the Sun taking a 63-62 lead into the final period. The visitors made a run in the fourth, but the Wings kept pace. One important play came from Skylar Diggins, who had a quiet 11 in the game. She was fouled on a three-point shot attempt and made all three free throws, which brought the Wings within two with 20 seconds left. Diggins had a look from three to send the game
into overtime, but she missed it.
Dallas was without Plenette Pierson, who sustained a concussion in Thursday’s game against the Storm.
The Wings face the Mercury on Tuesday.
