Storrs Conn – It was not the proper send off that Robert Morris coach Sal Buscaglia wanted.
Entering the NCAA Tournament first-round match up with perennial power house Connecticut, Buscaglia’s team was vastly over-matched by the top seed’s speed, length and athleticism, eventually succumbing, 101-49.
The Huskies rode the hot hand of freshman forward Katie Lou Samuelson, who scored 17 points in the first half and extended her team’s lead going into halftime, 64-15.
In the third quarter, Connecticut invited some of their teammates to the scoring party, as Moriah Jefferson scored 12 points, Kia Nurse added 10 and Breanna Stewart, 10 points to drive the lead to 85-24.
Anna Nikki Stamolamprou led the Colonials with 11 points, but 29 team turnovers were their Achilles heel.
